Sen. Judd Gregg (R-NH) has said that Republicans “would make it an extraordinarily difficult exercise” if Democrats try to make changes to the Senate health care reform bill through reconciliation.
According to the New York Times, Gregg said that using reconciliation “would be a very hard lift” for the Democrats.
Sen. Kent Conrad (D-ND), who opposed using this strategy earlier on in the health care reform process, said that “it’s important to understand the limitations of reconciliation,” but that he would be on board with reconciliation if that’s what it took. As for the Republican criticisms of the tactic, Conrad said that “they are going to say that, whatever.”
