Last week, Fox News anchor Shep Smith apologized for a “lack of balance” after airing an interview with Chris Christie, but had no interview with his opponent, Gov. Jon Corzine.

“If I had control, it wouldn’t have happened,” Smith said after the reporter explained, somewhat defensively, that Corzine hadn’t responded to requests for an interview.

Today, Smith’s colleague Neil Cavuto took a shot at the remark — albeit without naming names.

Video after the jump.

Cavuto took the opportunity, after airing a short interview with Corzine shot outside a rally, to “make something very very clear.”

“The notion that the better part of ‘fair and balanced’ is not to include any interview with any candidate because his opponent refuses to come on is simply something we don’t subscribe to here,” Cavuto said. “The alternative for you would be no guests.”

“We invite all parties, all candidates all the time. Sometimes, in fact most times, we make real pests of ourselves. But we always try because you deserve that, always,” he added.

Fox News has not responded to several requests for comment about its definition of balance.
