On the Daily Show Monday night, correspondent John Oliver bravely entered the frozen winter tundra of Illinois, risking his life to track down the AWOL Wisconsin Democrats. But he was not alone in his quest, enlisting the help of the state’s former top leader: Gov. Rod Blagojevich.
Trekking through Illinois, Oliver pretended as if he were embedded in enemy territory, calling the Democrats “terrorists” bent on destroying democracy. When he finally met up with Blagojevich — the former governor who left office amid allegations of trying to sell Barack Obama’s old Senate seat — he was shocked to see the deposed ruler outside in public.
“Can you just walk around here?” a stunned Oliver asked.
Blagojevich, it turned out, didn’t know where the Democrats were hiding after all.
“If you had that information, would you sell it to me?” Oliver asked. “Because that information would be fucking golden.”
“These lawmakers standing up for working people, and the fundamental rights of working people to bargain collectively with their employers,” Blagojevich responded.
“That,” he added, “is fucking golden.”
