Rep. Elijah Cummings (D-MD) disagreed this morning with RNC Chair Michael Steele’s claim that race plays a role in how he’s assessed.

Steele is currently embroiled in a crisis at the RNC, with donors and officials fleeing amid major criticism of the group’s spending.

Cummings said on MSNBC that race isn’t a factor in that criticism.

“We can blame this, say it’s race or whatever,” he said. “But I think it’s about fiscal responsibility.”

I’m not here to beat up on Michael Steele, but I wanna call it like it is. If I did that in my office, I’d be in trouble. No matter what color I am.
