WASHINGTON, DC - SEPTEMBER 17: Sen. Susan Collins (R-ME) answers questions from reporters on allegations against Supreme Court nominee Brett Kavanaugh on Capitol Hill September 17, 2018 in Washington, DC. Collins said it is important to get both sides of the story in the allegations, but indicated if Kavanaugh is found to have been untruthful it would be grounds for disqualifying his nomination. Sen. Susan Collins (R-ME) told a local radio station that her office has been inundated by angry and threatening calls and voicemails about her upcoming vote on Supreme Court nominee Brett Kavanaugh, according to a Hill report.

“My office has received some pretty ugly voicemails, threats, terrible things said to my staff,” Collins told WVOM on Wednesday. “This has been a very ugly process and I think that’s very unfortunate for everyone involved.”

In the interview, Collins also said that professor Christine Blasey Ford should testify before the hearing on Monday, that “it would be better for her.”

Blasey Ford has requested that the hearing be delayed so the FBI can conduct an investigation that could help shield her from personal and partisan attacks. Senate Judiciary Committee chair Chuck Grassley (R-IA) has denied that request. Blasey Ford has also asked for more witnesses to be involved, including Mark Judge, who she says was in the room when the alleged sexual assault took place. Grassley dismissed that request as well.

“I just wish more people could just have the decency to express their troubles and concerns and then do nothing like I do,” she added.

  3. Senator, how do you think Blasey Ford feels? She’s on the receiving end of more anger than you.

I am a Mainer. First she said no one was calling so we must not care (LIE), then the next week it was we were a bunch of vile and despicable callers threatening her. Another LIE. Then we’re a bunch of illegal conspirators because we have the gall to donate $20 to her opponent next campaign.

She just doesn’t want to hear from the majority of her constituents who oppose her views on this and the tax bill (and pretty much everything else). That’s okay – she’s tanked her approval ratings and will never recover from this. She’s done in 2020 – either retires or is voted out.
