When Standard & Poor’s downgraded the United States’ AAA credit rating, Stephen Colbert says they forgot America’s greatest asset: Jesus.

“We need god’s forgiveness,” Colbert said last night. “Or at least China’s.”

So naturally Colbert loved Texas Gov. Rick Perry’s (R) massive prayer event over the weekend. Around 30,000 people showed up to the potential presidential candidate’s event. And Perry is reportedly announcing his bid for the White House this Saturday.

A number of conservative interest groups have lined up to back Perry, but Colbert claims he has already called dibs. “Back off, bitches,” Colbert said. “I saw him first. I endorsed Perry weeks ago.”

Now Colbert is throwing the full support of his Super PAC behind the Texas governor, and he will apparently debut a television ad on Wednesday in Des Moines, Iowa.

“Brace yourself, folks,” he said.
