Stephen Colbert took the opportunity last night to apologize to Rep. Barney Frank (D-MA), who only agreed to appear on Colbert’s show next week on the condition of an apology.
What did Colbert have to apologize for? As he documented, he’s previously referred to Frank as “United States Congressman and shaved Ewok Barney Frank,” recommended that the Democrats fund health care by “looking for change in the folds of Barney Frank,” and even said that Frank “wouldn’t know a bad day for the economy if it were three feet behind him dancing disco.”
So Colbert whipped out his “Apology Box,” stuck his head inside, turned the crank, and said he was sorry as Chicago’s “Hard To Say I’m Sorry” played in the background.
