Apparently the midterm elections have boiled down to a fight between Karl Rove and Sarah Palin acolyte Christine O’Donnell.

Filling in for an absentee O’Donnell this morning, Rove told Fox News Sunday‘s Chris Wallace that O’Donnell couldn’t not respond to her now-famous witchcraft remarks but had to “deal with it, and explain it, and put it in it’s most sympathetic light and move on.”
Later this afternoon O’Donnell, who was attending a local picnic, responded thusly: “I was in high school, how many of you didn’t hang out with questionable folks in high school? But no, There’s been no witchcraft since, if there was, Karl Rove would be a supporter.”
Perhaps the only thing more surprising than the fact the national political dialogue has devolved into a debate over “witchcraft” is the fact that, in the words of Maureen Dowd, an “anti-abortion, anti-masturbation, anti-premarital-sex, anti-stem-cells, anti-gay-marriage, dubious-about-evolution Christian conservative” who once admitted to “dabbling in witchcraft” on an unaired Bill Maher show in 1999 is the person who has sent Karl Rove scrambling to prove his party loyalty. SNL is going to have to work double-time when it returns to be able to do this election cycle justice. Watch O’Donnell below.
