Senate candidate and Gov. Charlie Crist (R-FL) says that he may appear with President Obama at a University of Tampa event on Thursday.

Crist faced some backlash over his last appearance with the president, when Republicans lambasted him for a “man hug” the two shared back in February.

Despite the criticism, Crist seems unfazed, and according to the St. Petersburg Times said Tuesday: “If we can work it out logistically, I’ll be with him.”

Asked about the potential reaction from fellow Republicans, Crist said: “That’s not my concern. My concern is fighting for jobs for the people of Florida, and that’s my first and foremost duty, and I realize that.”

Crist is running against former state House Speaker Marco Rubio for the Republican Senate nomination in Florida, and as recently as January 26 was down three points in the polls.
