Rep. Joseph Cao (R-LA), who was the only Republican to vote “yes” on the House health care reform bill last year — but has since maintained that he’ll vote “no” on the Senate bill — said today that “right now, I’m a firm no” on the Senate version of the bill.

Cao was asked on CNN about conflicting reports about what his final vote will be on the Senate bill when it’s brought up in the House. He responded:

“Right now, I am a firm no because I do believe that the Senate language on the abortion issue is insufficient for me to support a Senate bill.”

Cao was also asked whether he’d support the bill if Rep. Bart Stupak (D-MI) got his desired changes to the abortion language:

If we are successful in getting strong language back into the bill, the Senate bill, then I will reconsider my vote. Whether or not I vote yes or no still has to be determined. But at least it will open the door for me to reconsider my vote.

Well that clears things up.
