Former Rep. Beto O’Rourke (D-TX) is leaning towards making a 2020 presidential run, according to a Tuesday Politico report.

His reported intentions make his reticence all the more confusing, as he has given little attention to the early voting states while candidates like Sen. Elizabeth Warren (D-MA) tour to make contacts and woo voters. He also has reportedly not made any big hiring moves.

Some are speculating that the young politician is still recovering from a grueling Senate campaign, while others attribute his lack of urgency to his unconventional style.

The Wall Street Journal reported Tuesday that O’Rourke is planning a solo road trip outside of Texas to meet voters and come to a final decision by February at the earliest.

I hate to say this but the Dem nominee, whoever that is,will be running against a GOP incumbent with all the structural, financial and logistical advantages that provides. In that sense,Beto is expendable. If he does this and flames out, he’s done on the national political scene. We here in Texas, need someone with his following running for state and Congressional offices.

  2. If he runs, he’ll need to do better than the hideous video he put out last night after Trump’s Oval Office liefest. It was lit as if it was shot through a beer glass, O’Rourke menacingly loomed in the frame and he cut off the people he was with a couple of times. There’s help available, Beto.

  4. Sorry, but only Governor and Senator are actual viable options for him now, at the State level. Anything else is a step down. And another run at the Senate is a lot less likely in 2020. So from where I sit, he either runs against Cornyn in 2020, or he runs for the Democratic nomination for President. Sitting on the sidelines for the next 6 years is akin to being exiled. The anvil is hot for him now, so I think he should go for it. Losing won’t be the end for him, and will, if he does decently (ie, survives beyond IA, NH and SC), will greatly improve the case for him as VP. And a VP slot might be the best situation for his career.
