Arizona lawmakers have set aside a bill that would require presidential candidates to show their birth certificates before they can get on the state’s ballot.
The bill had won initial approval from the Arizona House of Representatives about a week ago, but legislators say it won’t reach the state Senate before adjournment because not enough Republicans support it.
Arizona has been the center of some controversy for its new immigration law, and has seen increased scrutiny of some of the more conservative laws on its books or up for debate in the state legislature.
