As President Donald Trump approval ratings plummet, the White House is reportedly more ready and willing than ever to negotiate a deal to end the month-long government shutdown, Politico reported.

According to a person familiar with Trump’s thinking who spoke to Politico, Trump views the use of a national emergency declaration to secure his wall funding as a “last resort” option to end the shutdown stalemate and would prefer to negotiate a plan with lawmakers.

Trump is also growing increasingly concerned about what lasting impact the shutdown could have on the economy that he regularly touts as his greatest accomplishment.

Another factor propelling the White House’s interest in securing a bipartisan deal: His son-in-law Jared Kushner — who has been heavily involved in negotiations — was only able to convince one Democrat, Sen. Joe Manching (D-WV), to support GOP efforts.
