The group of Democrats who have indicated opposition to Nancy Pelosi’s bid to be speaker of the House are proposing that Pelosi — and other House leaders — limit their next terms to four years, rather than serving indefinitely, Politico reported.
The deal would allow Pelosi, along with Reps. Steny Hoyer (MD) and James Clyburn (SC) the chance to serve three terms as leaders and a fourth if they’re elected with the support of two-thirds of the caucus. That means the terms the three served when they had the majority from 2007 to 2011 would count as part of their leadership stint.
It is unclear if Pelosi or others would agree to the deal, but the offer emerged after days of private talks between Pelosi and her dissenters, according to Politico.
