Bad news for those planning to attend the Feb. 4 Lincoln Day Dinner of the Salt Lake County Republicans: the keynote speaker, James O’Keefe, won’t be making it after all.

O’Keefe, the filmmaker famous for dressing up as a pimp in an ACORN video sting, was arrested with three other men Tuesday for allegedly attempting to tap the phones in Sen. Mary Landrieu’s (D-LA) New Orleans office.

According to the Salt Lake Tribune, O’Keefe’s arrest has left the Salt Lake Country Republicans scrambling to find a new speaker.

“The allegations and arrest today certainly change our plans,” county GOP Chairman Thomas Wright told The Tribune. “We’ll be announcing a new speaker shortly.”

The group’s website has been scrubbed of references to O’Keefe, but according to The Tribune his speech would have focused on “his national exposé of ACORN’s unethical behavior, his changes in Congress and [how he will] inspire our Party’s passion for a grassroots comeback.”

Attendees to the dinner who paid more than $2,000 were eligible to attend a VIP reception with elected officials and the keynote speaker.
