Rep. Pete Sessions (R-TX), chairman of the National Republican Congressional Committee, told The Hill on Wednesday that he thinks already-embattled freshman Rep. David Rivera (R-FL) is doing a “very good job.”
“David Rivera is a brand new member of our delegation from Miami who is doing a very good job in his duties up here,” Sessions said. “He’s very active as a member of his freshman class. He’s getting his job done and I think that he’s seen in a very favorable light.”
Just a few weeks into his term, Rivera has been dogged by ethics questions, and state and local officials in Florida are looking into his personal finances and campaign accounts. Earlier this week, Majority Leader Eric Cantor (R-VA) said he is “obviously very concerned about the reports surrounding those investigations, but we’ll wait to see the result of them.”
When The Hill asked Sessions if he shared Cantor’s concerns, he said he “would just say that the issues that David is dealing with were entirely those from his service in Florida.”
“I have not seen many reports other than a newspaper that’s pushing a lot of these things,” Sessions added.
