John Sweeney will serve 30 days in jail after pleading guilty to driving drunk, reports the Albany Times-Union.
The former Republican congressman from New York was pulled over in April for doing 59 mph in a 40 mph zone, and refused to take a Breathalyzer test. He had also pleaded guilty to DWI charges in 2007, but avoided jail time.
Sweeney will also have to wear an alcohol monitoring device, perform 300 hours of community service by doing pro bono legal work, and pay a $1,000 fine.
The former Jack Abramoff and Allen Stanford crony lost his 2006 re-election race to Democrat Kirsten Gillibrand amid charges that his wife had the previous year called 9-1-1 to report that Sweeney was “knocking her around the house.”
He was also photographed that year appealing to young voters at a boozy local fraternity party.
