The Louisiana sheriff who plans to arm volunteers with a .50 caliber machine gun and other weapons, to maintain security in the event of a terrorist attack or man-made disaster, is being hailed as a hero by survivalists and other gun-rights enthusiasts.

“Awesome. Now there’s a Sheriff who thinks outside the box. Good for him,” writes one user at SurvivalistBoards.com (slogan: “Endure — Adapt — Overcome”), in reference to Bossier Parish Sheriff Larry Deen.

Another adds: “I’m glad to see that there are those that understand that they will have to do what is necessary.”

Says a third: “I wounder (sic) how many small county sheriffs are starting to see the light at the tunnel and wondering i need to start to do something about it.”

Over on the Firearms Forum, a gun-rights site “dedicated to the preservation of the United States Constitution,” one user declares: “He’s being proactive as apposed to being reactive. This will save lives!!!”

Says a fellow user: “I wish more of them took their job that seriously. I especially like the part about protecting businesses from the looters. I guess the freeloading sheeple will have to pay up or do without.”

And a third adds, in an apparent reference to the Obama administration: “That is what every county in the country should do sense (sic) the obongo crew really don’t care about us at all.”

As we reported Wednesday, the Bossier Parish Sheriff’s Office recently warned that “homegrown terrorists are in our midst,” and announced Operation Exodus, a program to arm volunteers with shotguns, batons, and a .50 caliber machine gun mounted on a “war wagon” to maintain security in the event of a crisis.
