The Democratic Congressional Campaign Committee will start running radio ads against Rep. Vern Buchanan (R-FL) on Monday that highlight the allegations his former car dealership violated campaign finance regulations by reimbursing employees for donations to his campaign.
“Congressman Vern Buchanan. His old business was caught illegally funneling over sixty thousand dollars in campaign donations to Buchanan to influence his election,” the ad, which will run on news weather traffic updates, will say. “Tell Buchanan to come clean.”
The Federal Election Commission (FEC) is seeking $67,900 from the Hyundai dealership Buchanan once co-owned because the business and its current owner allegedly reimbursed employees for donations to Buchanan’s campaign.
Buchanan’s office has denied he did anything improper, but his former business partner alleged the scheme was a “directive” of the congressman.
