Vincent Forras, a Sept. 11 first responder who ran for Senator in Connecticut and opposes the building of a mosque near ground zero, told TPM that those against the Islamic Center have been unfairly characterized as bigots.
“My filing of a lawsuit or my trying to prevent this has absolutely nothing to do with me being against Islam or Muslims or anything other than that mosque near Ground Zero,” Forras said. “So for me to be referred to as a blind bigot or a racist because I’m doing that, that just shows how weak their case is that they’re resorted to calling me something that I haven’t been called in my entire life.”
“We’re going to do everything we can do in our power to make sure a mosque doesn’t stand at Ground Zero,” he said. “It’s basically like life in the ‘Twilight Zone’ to even consider such a thing.”
“It’s nothing to do with singling out a race, its singling out the intent that we believe to build something that is a monument to their attack back on 9/11,” he said.
Forras said there would be “serious problems” if the Islamic center is built. He said the building of the mosque would be “a terrorist attack, another attack on America, both psychologically and physically.”
Dust which includes the remains of victims of Sept. 11 could still be in the air ducts of that building, Forras claimed. He also said mosques that are located six or eight blocks away are “no problem.”
