The idea was discussed in the show but originally draws historical inspiration from an 1837 open house hosted by President Andrew Jackson that featured a 1,400-pound block of cheese in the White House foyer.
Cheese fans are in for some disappointment, however, as this White House plans to serve up the gouda virtually. Next Wednesday, following President Obama's State of the Union address, dozens of officials will take questions on on Twitter, Facebook, Tumblr, Instagram and via Google+ Hangout.
