The only survivor of Wednesday’s horrific on-air shooting in Virginia was able to walk to the ambulance herself despite having a bullet in her back, her husband told ABC’s “Good Morning America” on Friday morning.

Vicki Gardner was unable to see the shooter approach because of bright television lights, her husband, Tim Gardner, told GMA.

“He shot three times at my wife,” Tim Gardner said. “He missed twice. Then she dove to the ground, curled up in a ball and that’s when he shot her in the back.”

Vicki walked to the ambulance herself, her husband told GMA, but the surgeon told him that if the bullet had been only inches further, his wife wouldn’t be walking.

As of Friday morning, she was out of a medically-induced coma following surgeries on her back and kidney.
