Schiff: Trump Told Me ‘I Did A Good Job’ On Russia Investigation (VIDEO)

Rep. Adam Schiff (D-CA), the top Democrat on the House Intelligence Committee, said Tuesday that President Donald Trump told him he was doing “a good job” with the panel’s investigation into Russian meddling in the U.S. election.

The congressman told Yahoo News’ Katie Couric that after he arrived Friday at the White House to look at intelligence reports previously viewed only by House Intelligence Committee Chair Rep. Devin Nunes (R-CA), Trump asked to meet with him and he agreed.

“The President began the meeting by saying, ‘So are you getting to see everything you want?’” Schiff told Couric.

At that point, Schiff said he told Trump that his staff director had been denied access to the documents. In Schiff’s telling, the President said that he was fine with staff viewing the reports, after which Schiff “could hear a lot of grumbling from the President’s staff.” He said his staff director was ultimately able to review the documents.

Schiff said that he spent most of the conversation focused on infrastructure, not on the committee’s investigation.

“I tried to emphasize—because frankly I didn’t want to talk about the Russia investigation—that infrastructure was an area where we ought to be able to find common ground,” Schiff told Couric.

Couric asked if the two discussed the Russia probe further and whether Trump “tweaked” Schiff.

“No,” Schiff replied. “He said I did a good job, and that was about all the commentary I got from the President on that. It was a perfectly cordial meeting.”

  3. Having Trump say that would make me call for a new ranking member, except that Trump always lies.

  4. Personally, had that been me, I’d have taken a shower to decontaminate and rid myself from casual exposure to King Shitstain and his posse of mini-me shitstains after that experience. I can just picture those mini-me-s standing around, bobbing their heads up and down, saying “yes sir” every 5 seconds.

in the MSM are busy following Trump down the rat hole by focusing on Susan Rice - optics, clouds and shadows - in moves reminiscent of the election campaign and emails. But there’s a real danger here.

But if senior intelligence officials can’t concern themselves with the national security implications of foreign meddling in an election, or of the sundry conflicts corrupt campaign officials (like, say, Trump’s) might bring into government, without subjecting themselves to character assassination, it creates horrifying incentives for both potential meddlers and their beneficiaries. The corollary of saying Rice’s only possible motives were nefarious—that what she and others did was shady on its face—is that campaigns should operate with impunity, free to woo foreign intelligence organizations as if they were no less central to the partisan fray than political action committees. After all, anybody who probes the question will be tarred as an unreliable narrator.

We should all support a full accounting of what the Russian government did, what the Trump inner circle did, and how the U.S. government responded. But Trump and his aides have been engaged in a well-documented campaign of deception since those fateful tweets on March 4. Placing the burden of proof on anyone other than them is an error we will all come to regret.
