Donald Trump said in a Wednesday tweet that he did not ask Ohio Gov. John Kasich to be his running mate, apparently responding to a New York Times report that the Trump campaign had been interested in Kasich.

In the tweet, Trump says that he himself did not ask Kasich to be his vice president, but he did not directly deny that another member of the Trump team reached out to the Ohio governor.

The New York Times reported that Donald Trump Jr. reached out to a Kasich adviser to ask if the governor was interested in becoming Trump’s running mate, and ultimately the most powerful vice president ever.
