At least one person was killed and up to 75 were injured after a commuter train crashed into the waiting area of a Hoboken, New Jersey train station during Thursday morning rush hour, NBC reported.

Initial reports indicated that three people died in the accident, but that number has since been revised down. A number of people remained trapped after the initial impact, according to the news site.

Law enforcement officials told NBC that the crash at the crowded station appeared to be accidental or the result of operator error, but stressed that the investigation was in its early stages.

According to MSNBC, the train jumped the tracks, plowing through a barrier and onto a concrete slab where commuters stood. The roof of the station partially collapsed on top of the first train car, and photos of the incident show structural damage inside the station and debris covering the platform.

All PATH and NJ Transit service is suspended into and out of the station.

Investigators from both the Federal Railroad Administration and National Transportation Safety Board have sent investigators to the scene, according to NBC, and dozens of emergency personnel were treating passengers.

  2. There are mass casualties because lots of people were hurt. Could you PLEASE clarify if they mean it was an intentional event?

UPDATE: NBC reports four law enforcement officials say it was likely accidental: “Preliminary reports suggest the crash involving train No. 1614 on the Pascack Valley Line was accidental or caused by operator error, according to four law enforcement officials, though they stress it is early in the investigation.”

I’m guessing that it’s far to soon to determine that. Probably not too soon for Trump though.
