North Carolina House Speaker Thom Tillis (R-NC), the Republican nominee for U.S. Senate has a new ad accusing Sen. Kay Hagan (D-NC), Tillis’s Democratic opponent, of being bad at math.

“Math is lost on Senator Hagan. She’s misleading you about me to hide her own partisan record,” Tillis said in the ad, released on Thursday. Tillis goes on to say that Hagan voted for “$7 trillion in debt” and votes with President Barack Obama 96 percent of the time.

“That’s math too, and it’s the difference in this election,” Tillis said.

In response the Hagan campaign pointed out the the senator, a banking lawyer, previously wrote state budgets. Hagan is on the Senate Banking Committee.

“Kay wrote state budgets and she knows how these numbers work,” said Sadie Weiner, the Hagan Campaign Communications Director. “Rather than critiquing Kay’s math capabilities, Tillis should show North Carolinians that he actually cares about education by undoing his tax cuts for the wealthy that put the squeeze on our classrooms and effectively rigged the system against middle class families.”

EMILY’s List press secretary Marcy Stech, in a statement, added that, “Tillis’ problem with North Carolina women is past the point of no return.”
