Following a dismal third-place finish in the New York Republican primary on Tuesday, Sen. Ted Cruz (R-TX) said on Wednesday that none of the candidates will be able to lock up the 1,237 delegates needed to secure the presidential nomination ahead of the convention this summer.

“We are headed to a contested convention. At this point nobody is getting 1,237,” Cruz told CBS Radio in Philadelphia on Wednesday.

The Texas senator has said that he could win the Republican nomination at a contested convention, and he has been working to pick up delegates in states like Colorado, which does not hold a primary election.

On Wednesday, Cruz predicted that Trump won’t be able to lock up the nomination ahead of the July convention.

“Donald is going to talk all the time about other folks not getting to 1,237, he’s not getting there either,” he told CBS.

“I’m going to have to have a ton of delegates, Donald is going to have a ton of delegates,” Cruz added. “And it is going to be a battle in Cleveland to see who can earn a majority of delegates that have been elected by the people.”
