Republican presidential candidate Sen. Ted Cruz (R-TX) tweeted Tuesday that his campaign had “absolutely nothing” to do with a fake Facebook page for Rep. Trey Gowdy (R-SC) that claimed he was endorsing Cruz over rival Sen. Marco Rubio (R-FL).

Here’s what Cruz tweeted:

Our campaign had absolutely nothing to do with this fraudulent Facebook post. https://t.co/OGMlAsnLPm

The fake Gowdy page posted that the representative was rescinding his endorsement of Rubio after his performance at the South Carolina GOP debate revealed his “total lack of integrity, intillect (sic) and foresight.”

Here’s the full Facebook post, which has since been removed:

Gowdy released a statement through the Rubio campaign stating that the Facebook page was fake and was made “to fool South Carolinians into thinking that I no longer support Marco Rubio.”

“Nothing could be further from the truth and I’m demanding that Senator Cruz and his campaign repudiate these dishonest and underhanded tactics,” Gowdy said in his statement, according to the Daily Caller.

  1. I’m with Cruz here.

C’mon. Scams have to be at least a little believable. That someone would go through the trouble of faking an endorsement by Gowdy just isn’t credible.

  2. It’s SC

There are likely folks down there who believe that the McCain’s adopted daughter’s actual father is really John McCain.

  3. That’s some funny shit.

  4. This sounds like a scam, but that does not negate the fact that Cruz remains a scam artist. It’s just one less scam in his quiver full of scams!

  5. This kind of deception is deplorable and nothing like it would be tolerated by this campaign.

So, where exactly do you draw the line between fake announcements that Dr. Carson was quitting his campaign, and fake Facebook posts claiming an endorsement?

Robocalls? Of course! Flyers? Fine! But FACEBOOK?!? You insult my integrity, sir!
