New Mexico Gov. Susana Martinez (R) is no longer scheduled to appear at the North Carolina state Republican convention in May, but her office is hastening to say that the schedule change is not a protest against North Carolina’s anti-LGBT law.

“She has a scheduling conflict and will be in New Mexico that day,” spokesman Chris Sanchez told the Santa Fe New Mexican.

The North Carolina GOP announced earlier in April on its Facebook page that Martinez would join the convention, and the schedule on the party’s website initially listed indicated that Martinez would attend a dinner at the convention on May 7, according to the Santa Fe New Mexican. But Martinez’s name no longer appears on the convention schedule.

North Carolina has seen an intense backlash against its new sweeping anti-gay law, but a spokesman for Martinez said that she did not cancel her appearance due to the law.
