Colbert Gets Eminem To Sing Bob Seger Tunes On Public Access TV (VIDEO)

Stephen Colbert’s expertly-calibrated guerrilla marketing campaign for his new “Late Show” gig continued with a perfect guest spot hosting a Michigan public access show this week. No joke.

During the 41-minute episode of “Only In Monroe,” (pop. 20,700) Colbert painted his nails with the show’s regular hosts, read nasty Yelp reviews, and chased an O’Doul’s with a shot of whisky, interrupted only by low-budget commercials for local businesses.

But the cornerstone of the show was an interview with rapper Eminem, who Colbert introduced as “a local Michigander who is making a name for himself in the competitive world of music.” Eminem also gamely sang bits of Colbert’s favorite Bob Seger songs as part of the segment (starting at about 22:50).

“Late Show” with Colbert doesn’t start until Sept. 8, which means there’s plenty of time for Colbert to pop up in your local market.

  1. I intended to only watch the one clip, but I let the beginning play and I was hooked. The two gals who host are fabulous and played well with Colbert. Eminem was a huge let down. I had to turn it off then because I would lose more of my day to the immensely watchable Stephen Colbert.

  2. If you have 42 minutes to spare, the whole video is well worth the time for your Colbert fix. The Yelp piece was insane.

  3. As part of the Michigan economic diaspora, I think this is brilliant.

  4. Colbert is sooo funny. And Eminem is still such a dick.

Colbert gave Eminem every chance to come off like a real human being, and Mathers still couldn’t get out of his sullen proteus-inducing depression-prone persona. Eminem’s lack of any charm whatsoever, particularly as a performer, would be putting it mildly. I grew up near 8 Mile and this guy was a complete fraud since day one.

  5. And btw, the headline on the front page is inaccurate. Colbert could barely get Eminem to sing any of Seeger’s songs…since the guy didn’t seen to know any of them off the top of his head and had to be coached. Actually, I’m not sure this guy is really from the Detroit area after all.
