White House press secretary Sean Spicer refused to say on Friday that Republicans had the votes to repeal Obamacare, but he did scold one reporter who asked what President Donald Trump would do if the bill failed.

“If this fails today, is the President done with heath care?” one reporter asked.

“So negative,” Spicer said.

“That’s what we’re hearing,” the reporter replied.

“That is what you are hearing?” Spicer responded. “I haven’t heard that yet. So why don’t we continue with a very positive, optimistic Friday? The sun is coming out. I feel really good. So we are going to continue to work as late as we can to get the votes. As I said, the upside is we continue to pick up votes.”

Trump told members of Congress Thursday night that he was done negotiating over the American Health Care Act. On Friday, it was still unclear whether Republicans had the votes to pass the bill.

Spicer hammered home the message Friday that Trump had “given it his all.”

“I think it shocked a lot of people, frankly, how very, very detail-oriented, how personal it was for him, calling members as early as 6:00 in the morning and going until 11:00 at night the last several nights, sitting down, meeting after meeting with them, coming back and revising it, having the team back and forth, everything is out there,” Spicer said.

“And I think each of these members needs to make the decision whether or not they believe that they’ve–” he trailed off.

“At some point, you can only do so much as what I would honestly tell you.”

He added later: “At the end of the day, you can’t force somebody to do something.”
