Sonic Drive-In apologized after one of its Missouri restaurants displayed an inflammatory message about Sunday’s game between the Kansas City Chiefs and Washington Redskins.

The marquee outside the restaurant in Belton, Mo. gained attention after a photo was posted on Twitter.

“‘KC CHIEFS’ WILL SCALP THE REDSKINS FEED THEM WHISKEY SEND – 2 – RESERVATION,” the sign read.

A spokesperson for Sonic apologized for the sign, which he said was “offensive and unacceptable.” The spokesperson told NBC News that the sign was done by an employee “known for creative use of his signs” and it was only on display for “a matter of hours.”

The Redskins have been at the center of public criticism as of late for their nickname. President Barack Obama said in October that he’d consider dropping the name.
