NBC comedy show “Saturday Night Live” imagined how Democratic presidential candidate Sen. Bernie Sanders (I-VT) lost the Iowa caucus.
“SNL” host Larry David recreated his show, “Curb your enthusiasm” to “Bern your enthusiasm” to imagine what happened. It all started when David, as Sanders, refused to shake hands with a woman at a campaign rally after she coughed.
David said he was running for President and wouldn’t shake “disgusting hands.”
“She didn’t have the decency to give me a wipe,” David said, recounting the story to a supposed Sanders campaign staffer. “She gave me a cough and a shake.”
David, as Sanders, also refused to pop a woman’s shoulder back in its socket after she got in a car accident on the way to vote for him.
David returned to campaign headquarters to watch the Iowa caucus results roll in, only to see them all wearing rival Hillary Clinton gear.
Watch:
This was the best skit of the night. I rarely watch SNL but I wanted to see Bernie do some schtick. I love Curb, used to have the complete box set until my son sold them. Doesn’t matter, you can watch them on Netflix now I think. This was a pret-ty, pret-ty, pret-ty good parody of the show.
Only caught that one the second time through.
Curb was a horrible show. I tried watching it twice and only made it to the second show before averting my eyes in disgust. Just a bunch of people yelling at each other and being selfish assholes.
That being said, this comedy bit was a dead-on parody of the show. Equal parts yelling, insulting and general assholery. Exactly what I hated about the original show.
To portray a presidential candidate as unwilling to shake a black woman’s hand is bad enough, to show that in relation to Bernie’s campaign (after the stupid accusations about blacks not liking him) borders on libelous.
Hilarious!
I thoroughly enjoyed SNL’s parodies of Palin during the 2008 election, but the recent parody of Palin’s endorsement of Trump felt more like Rush Limbaugh mocking the Parkinson’s symptoms of Michael J. Fox. This parody of Sanders continues in that direction, just a little too mocking and cruel to be funny.
