Fox News host Shepard Smith took NBC to task on Tuesday with a sarcastic on-air rant about the network’s on-off relationship with GOP frontrunner Donald Trump.
NBC announced Tuesday that Trump would host “Saturday Night Live” on Nov. 7. That prompted Smith to remind viewers of the network’s very public breakup with Trump after the Republican called Mexican immigrants “rapists” and drug runners during his presidential announcement speech in June.
“NBC and everything Comcast did not want to be associated with Donald Trump, left all the money on the table, no more!” Smith said, picking up steam. “No more Trump on NBC! So what’s he doing? He’s going back to NBC! Good job! Nice job, NBC.”
“You made a stand! You stood for your values! You did what you must! No more Trump! Except, more Trump,” a gesticulating Smith ranted.
“Dumb dumb dumb,” the Fox host said, mimicking NBC’s famous three-note chime. “You did a great job! We’re all proud of you, NBC. We’ll be watching.”
Smith didn’t let the matter drop even after the story ended, and was heard half-mumbling and seen throwing his arms in the air as his show went to commercial: “Morals, values, leave the money on the table! Cancel it all, we’re through with him! Welcome back.”
Smith’s own network has had a turbulent relationship with Trump. The ex-reality TV star made waves after locking horns with Fox host Megyn Kelly during the first Republican debate, prompting network boss Roger Ailes to intervene. But the peace has proved tenuous, with Trump alternately attacking and making appearances on Fox.
Watch Smith’s full monologue:
Unlike Fox, which stood by its principles after Trump dissed their lead female anchor. Oh…wait…
Doesn’t SNL get to pick who is on it’s show. I didn’t know they had to get approval from the network to do so. Am I wrong here?
“At NBC, respect and dignity for all people are cornerstones of our values. Due to the recent derogatory statements by Donald Trump regarding immigrants, NBCUniversal is ending its business relationship with Mr. Trump,” the network said in a statement. Unless …
I honestly couldn’t tell you, and I doubt anyone outside of SNL and NBC legal could. My guess is that Lorne Michaels has a tremendous amount of leeway on who and what he does with the show. But at the end of the day, it IS on NBC.
The real point here for me is…Is Smith completely unaware of the on again/off again relationship his own network has with Trump??
Wow…anyone wanna guess how many zeroes the bonus check had for that one? Talk about projection.
I’m wondering if Faux is angrier about NBC’s alleged hypocrisy or the fact that having Trump on SNL prevents them from complaining that SNL had HRC as a guest but “dissed” the GOP’s frontrunner because something something bias?
