After Politico reporter Marc Caputo tweeted quotes from an anonymous Sen. Marco Rubio (R-FL) staffer calling Fox News’ Sean Hannity a “fucking asshole,” the consevative pundit took to Twitter to hurl insults at the journalist.
Caputo tweeted Wednesday that Hannity is “a new enemy” for “Rubio World,” and quoted an unnamed Rubio staffer calling the Fox News host a “fucking asshole,” a “pussy,” and a “sellout.” He remarked “boy, they’re angry” with the quote.
Rubio World has a new enemy: Sean Hannity. Staffer: “what a fucking asshole. He lets Trump trash everyone for months….

…”But Marco gives Donald a taste of his own medicine and Hannity gets all offended. He’s a pussy and a sellout.” Boy, they’re angry 2/2

Hannity didn’t take the news well and started out by slamming Rubio as a GOP establishment “pawn.”
Hey Marc,@marcorubio is now pawn for establishment. Sad to me. That’s not man I knew. https://t.co/bCn2UL8wc0

The Fox News talking head also jabbed Caputo for his “big words” and “typical lib media” reporting.
Glad Politico let’s u use such big words that accurately describes yourself asshole. And u r “impartial” to politics https://t.co/bCn2UL8wc0
— Sean Hannity (@seanhannity) March 2, 2016
Typical lib media, u missed my point. I always liked the REAL @marcorubio NOT THE GUY I SAW LAST NIGHT! https://t.co/BETSWuiZ49

Then Hannity went in for the kill shot: a whole bunch of people listen to his radio show.
Would love to play but I have 14 million radio listeners depending on me. Have fun with your 20,000 Twitter follows https://t.co/BETSWuiZ49

But Caputo dished it back, tagging Hannity in a reply calling him “a real man,” correcting his grammar, and mocking Hannity’s enthusiasm for mixed martial arts.
I’m glad FOX “lets” you improperly use “let” as a contraction. The growth hormone is making you even dumber https://t.co/U2ChasDH0y

If he wants to step into the octagon for charity, I’m game https://t.co/eTZZTa3aV9

While legions of conservatives trolls were loosed on Caputo from the exchange, other users pointed out that he was, in fact, quoting a source, not editorializing.
This sequence of Hannity not understanding that a reporter is quoting someone is pretty special pic.twitter.com/aHPCqid75m

Seems strangely appropriate:
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=d0aIqx1McVIOh My God this is comedy gold. Warn me next time I almost ruined another keyboard.
I’m fascinated by the conservative pundits routinely using ratings/twitter followers (or a lack there of) as a rebuttal about whoever it is drawing their ire. Do they think this tact gives them legitimacy? Credence? Are they this daft?
Are you suggesting it doesn’t?

It was only a matter of time before the fawning right wing press emulated Trump and Rubio by engaging in a war of words using taunts you usually hear only in the 5th grade boys locker room.
