Wisconsin Gov. Scott Walker (R) said on Sunday that Republicans need a positive message focused on the economy in order to win elections in 2014.
“In 2014, Republicans need to lay out an optimistic message to regain the United States Senate,” he said on CBS’s “Face the Nation,” and added that he won in Wisconsin by focusing “obsessively on helping fix the economy.”
When asked about a potential 2016 presidential run, Walker called such talk “flattering.”
“They’ve talked about it because we’ve taken real action and real reforms,” Walker said about speculation about Republican governors like Walker and New Jersey Gov. Chris Christie running for president. “I’ve got to look at my state. My state’s gone through a lot in the last couple years. There’s a part of me that would like to stay focused on helping the state move forward. So, we’ll see what the future holds, but for now, I’m focused on being governor.”
