Sen. Marco Rubio (R-FL) said in an interview aired Sunday that he apologized to presumptive GOP nominee Donald Trump for mocking the size of his former opponent’s hands.

Trump’s hands and manlihood made it into the headlines after Rubio questioned the size of his palms when he said Trump had “small hands.” Rubio said on CNN’s “State of the Union” that he apologized to Trump for the remark.

“I said, ‘you know, I’m sorry that I said that. It’s not who I am and I shouldn’t
have done it,'” Rubio said. “I didn’t say it in front of the cameras, I didn’t want any political benefit. I’m not a candidate now so I can say that to you.”

Rubio said that the comment was unlike him and that it embarrassed his family.

“It’s not what I do,” Rubio said. “And by doing it, I ended up hurting myself.”
