Senate Minority Leader Harry Reid (D-NV) took his first official whack at the Republican’s presumptive nominee Donald Trump Thursday.
“Trump is the definition of a man who was born on third and thinks he hit a triple,” Reid said.
The Senate is on recess this week so Reid spoke to reporters over a conference call from his home in Nevada Thursday and said he still cannot quite believe that Trump has actually clinched the GOP nomination.
“It hasn’t sunk in yet with me, but it’s true that is the reality,” Reid said.
Reid then pivoted to tying Trump’s bombastic and bullying brand to the Republican Party as a whole, a strategy he is sure to deploy as Democrats fight in 2016 to regain the Senate.
“GOP senators say they trust the judgment of a man who defends rape, who calls women dogs and pigs, who spews hatred towards immigrants,” Reid said.
