Senate Minority Leader Harry Reid (R-NV) on Wednesday laid blame for Donald Trump’s rise in the Republican party on Senate Majority Leader Mitch McConnell (R-KY)
During an interview with Politico, Reid said that McConnell and Trump are “cuddled up together” and explained that he plans to tie Senate Republicans to Trump throughout the election.
“It’s easy to do: The Senate leadership is enthralled by Trump. ‘He’s the guy. He’s going to carry on the standards of the Republican Party.’ Wow,” Reid told Politico. “My job is to tell the people that Mitch McConnell is one of the reasons we have Trump. … Everything that Trump is, McConnell led the charge.”
When asked later in the interview to respond McConnell describing Reid as having a “Dr. Jekyll and Mr. Hyde personality” in his new book, the Nevada senator again tied McConnell to Trump.
“He, more than any other one person, is responsible for Donald Trump,” Reid said.
The Senate minority leader also said he couldn’t imagine Trump winning the presidency.
“I don’t think he can win. I would feel sad for my family, the country,” Reid said. referring to Trump. “That’s a hypothetical, a nightmare I can’t accept. As much as I disliked George Bush the second, I would never have a nightmare about it.”
