The brother of the American-born federal judge whom Donald Trump called a “Mexican” and a “hater” said the comments were “offensive.”

“I find some of the wording that [Trump] is using offensive,” Raul Curiel of Hammond, Indiana — whose brother U.S. District Judge Gonzalo P. Curiel is presiding over two lawsuits against Trump University — told the Indy Star. “I don’t take him seriously, but apparently there’s enough people that take him seriously that it’s kind of like a scary situation.”

Trump has suggested that Judge Curiel has been “hostile” to him because of his border wall plans, claims that his brother rebuked.

“He takes [his judgeship] as a very serious job and there’s no need insinuating that my brother is prejudiced,” he said in an interview Wednesday evening with the Indy Star.

Trump first began bashing Judge Curiel back in February, but upped his attacks last week in a 12-minute tirade where he called Curiel a “disgrace” who “should recuse himself.”

Trump made the speech in San Diego, where Curiel is based, and on the same day his court was hearing a motion to unseal some of documents related to the case. The judge referenced Trump’s comments in his order to unseal them: he said the “defendant” now a “front-runner for the Republican nomination in the 2016 presidential race” had “placed the integrity of these court proceedings at issue.” But otherwise the judge hasn’t responded directly to Trump’s attacks.

“I really don’t care what [Trump] says. But at the same time, he starts attacking your relatives, it’s a little bothersome,” Raul Curiel told the Indy Star. “I know my brother is probably feeling the same way: Let [Trump] do his talking. [My brother’s] got a job to do and that’s what he’ll do.”

  1. “Offensive” is about the minimum you could call Trump’s comments. Other fitting words are “racist”, “contemptuous”, and (considering how the release of sealed documents has worked out for him) “incredibly, stupidly self-defeating”.

  2. Trump is trying to distract us from his failures to release his tax returns.

What is he trying to hide? Will he next attack the IRS for investigating his tax fraud?

  3. Perhaps someone should ask Drumpf’s sister how she feels about the ethics or the propriety of her brother targeting a Federal Judge in an ongoing case brought against him. She’s a Federal Judge, isn’t she? Better yet, ask him how he’d feel if someone targeted his sister. Something tells me that self-centered prick probably wouldn’t give a shit…

  4. Dear Raul:

I agree. The problem is Trump doesn’t give a shit what you think because you’re Mexican, too.

  5. Trump has suggested that Judge Curiel has been “hostile” to him because of his border wall plans, claims that his brother rebuked.

As a serious question, when did Trump say this? I’ve seen multiple references to this, but they’ve all been assertions by the media rather than quotes from Trump himself.
