Local militiamen have been holed up at the Malheur Wildlife Refuge for going on almost a week now and authorities are taking steps to prevent them from taking over more facilities on the preserve.

According to the Oregonian, police cut off electricity to a building on the south side of the Malheur Wildlife Refuge Thursday. The intention was to halt any potential movement of the militiamen from their current location to the U.S. Bureau of Land Management fire guard station, which is used as a home base for firefighters in the dry summer months.

The unknown number of militiamen is still located about 40 miles away from the fire guard station in the preserve’s main buildings which include a museum and sleeping quarters. Power at the main facility is still on, according to the Oregonian.
