Sen. Rob Portman (R-OH) on Sunday brought up “Meet the Press” host Chuck Todd’s controversial comment that Democratic candidate Alison Lundergan Grimes “disqualified herself” when she wouldn’t say whether she voted for President Obama.

The NBC host asked Portman whether Senate Minority Leader Mitch McConnell was a problem for Republicans.

“No, but I think Mitch is going to win in Kentucky. By the way, you’re the one that he said that she had disqualified herself, her opponent, by saying that she wouldn’t tell people whether she voted for President Obama or not,” Portman responded, referring to Grimes.

“Well, I meant that voters might think that at the time,” Todd said about his comment, which he has already called “sloppy.”

Todd then asked Portman if he thinks McConnell should be the Republican leader in the Senate.

“Yeah, I think he should,” Portman answered.
