Daniel Handler, whose pen name is Lemony Snicket, and his wife and illustrator Lisa Brown, have previously donated to the organization, which he detailed in a column in 2007 for The New York Times.

Brown reiterated the couple’s history of donating to Planned Parenthood in a statement to BuzzFeed.

Handler made headlines when he made a racist joke about a black novelist at an awards ceremony in 2014 and donated to an organization that promotes diversity in literature.
