PETA wonders whether children might be the next victims of New Hampshire state Rep. David Campbell (D).
An official from People for the Ethical Treatment of Animals released a statement to TPM on Monday saying he wants local authorities to thoroughly investigate Campbell, who admitted to killing several ducks with his BMW after they did not move out of his way.
PETA Director of Cruelty Investigations Martin Mersereau blasted the “indifference” Campbell showed when he ran over the ducks in front of a Nashua, N.H. hotel.
“What’s next—mowing down kids who don’t scramble to run out of a Beemer’s path? Everyone, from the youngest child to the person holding the highest office in our country, can spare a few seconds to save animals from a gruesome and painful death,” Mersereau said. “PETA trusts that Nashua authorities will follow through on their investigation—and that Nashua residents will speak out against any elected official’s indifference to others’ suffering.”
A spokesman for the Nashua Police Department declined to comment to TPM about the case other than to describe it as an “ongoing investigation.” Campbell has not responded to multiple requests for comment.
