A top Donald Trump aide brushed off concerns that Trump’s remarks that Hillary Clinton was playing a “woman card” was hurting his campaign.

“Our candidate knows what he’s doing,” Paul Manafort told MSNBC’s Luke Russert, who asked whether the comments were an unforced error.

“I’m comfortable that the campaign messages that’s he’s communicating are working. We saw that on Tuesday, we’re going to see it again next week,” Manafort continued, referring Trump’s five-state primary sweep this week and the Indiana primary coming next week.

In a press conference after Tuesday’s victories, Trump said Clinton “was playing the woman card.”

“I think the only card she has is the woman’s card. She’s got nothing else going. And frankly, if Hillary Clinton were a man, I don’t think she’d get 5 percent of the vote,” he said. He has since doubled down on the comments.
