Rep. Steven Palazzo (R-MS) on Monday said that he would support deporting “anchor babies,” children of undocumented immigrants born in the United States, according to the Clarion-Ledger.

Such a move would require amending the Fourteenth Amendment, which grants citizenship to anyone born in the U.S.

Palazzo, speaking during a telephone town hall, also said that Mississippi Gov. Phil Bryant should send National Guard troops to Texas to help secure the border.

Texas Gov. Rick Perry has authorized the deployment of 1,000 members of the National Guard to the border to address the influx of undocumented immigrants crossing the southern border, a move questioned by multiple border authorities.
