President Barack Obama took a shot at Congress on Friday while addressing high school students in New York, criticizing lawmakers who refused to recognize that the nation’s deficits have fallen in half since he took office.

“I just sat in on a class called ‘Real World Math,'” Obama said at P-Tech High School in Brooklyn, “which got me thinking whether its too late to send Congress here for a remedial course.”

Obama visited the math class before his remarks, where he spoke to students and inspected projects they were working on.

“I liked math, but then it started to get harder,” Obama said, recollecting his own experience with the subject, according to a White House pool report. “And so that can be frustrating.”
