House Intelligence Committee Chair Devin Nunes (R-CA) on Monday night said that Democrats want him to step aside from the committee’s Russia investigation because he is “effective.”

“I’m sure that the Democrats do want me to quit, because they know that I’m quite effective at getting to the bottom of things,” Nunes told Fox News’ Bill O’Reilly when asked about calls for his recusal.

It’s not clear what Nunes was referring to that he thinks Democrats have a problem with.

The week after he came forward with the allegation that information on President Donald Trump and his associates was “incidentally collected” by the intelligence community, Nunes said Monday that he visited the White House grounds to meet a source about the revelation.

Nunes said that he needed to review the material on the White House grounds because Congress did not have access to the report.

“There was no sneaking around,” Nunes told O’Reilly.
