On Monday, Sept. 22, 2014, Rounds released his written answers to questions on what he knew about the state's involvement in the federal EB-5 program that lets foreign investors obtain a green card with a $500,000 investment in an approved job-creating project. The National Republican Senatorial Committee (NRSC) is reportedly planning to pour $1 million worth of TV time into the South Dakota race for U.S Senate in an effort to boost former Gov. Mike Rounds (pictured), the Republican nominee for Senate there.

According to Politico, the NRSC is is currently “in the process” of reserving $1 million worth of time in the state. The move is a clear response to the Democratic Senatorial Campaign Committee planning to spend $1 million in the race to boost Democrat Rick Weiland, the Democratic nominee. The news of Democratic spending was first reported by Bloomberg News.

TPM also previously reported on Wednesday that MayDay PAC, the campaign finance reform political action committee, is planning to spend $1 million to help Weiland also.

All together the spending by both Republicans and Democrats are one of the strongest signs that the South Dakota race is quickly becoming one of the most competitive Senate races in the last few weeks of the 2014 midterm elections.

The TPM Polltracker finds Rounds with a 5.7 point advantage over the rest of the field.
