“Nightly Show” correspondents left host Larry Wilmore high and dry on Tuesday night’s show.
The correspondents, usually eager to make fun of Republican frontrunner Donald Trump and other political gaffes, said it’s no longer funny.
They all had one message: “Fuck, Trump.”
Even Wilmore came around.
“This is ugly, that’s the only word I can come up for this. Ugly,” Wilmore said. “And to the GOP candidates and pundits who are calling him out now. ‘I can’t believe he said this.’ Stop attacking like your so fucking surprised. Just stop it. Trump’s been saying this shit since the day he announced back in June and called Mexicans ‘rapists.’ That’s how he began his campaign. And when people tell you who they are, believe them.”

And yet all Trump coverage all the time. This will illustrate that recent adage: there’s no such thing as bad media coverage. All this outrage is only going to feed the fascist machine. That said, the situation is a double bind. It’s important for people of any political stripe to be exposed to this virulent shit stain’s rise. So the media coverage is, to a degree, also warranted. I don’t know where responsible media outlets will draw the line, but I do hope that they reflect on the larger implications and possible historical context of their role in this.
